During the two-year training contract, interns spend one of their four six-month stays in the London office. The rest of the seats are allocated to Singapore. Upon completion of the training contract, successful interns are offered a legally qualified associate position in English at the Singapore office. Our impressive in-house training covers a wide range of legal, personal and business skills to help you develop not only as a lawyer, but also as a businessman. In addition to acquiring practical skills such as design, transaction management, research and legal and office procedures, you will develop your professional behavior in terms of negotiation and communication with clients and colleagues. During the summer, Singapore Summer Associates can expect to participate in active issues in a wide range of practice areas. In addition to gaining hands-on experience, Singapore summer employees will participate in the company`s formal training program and introductory courses covering a wide range of practical topics. The training is designed to provide summer employees with a general understanding of our practice and the work they would do as employees. Latham prides itself on the collegiate nature of the team in Singapore, and our summer employees will meet partners, employees and apprentices, both in the office and at social events. The Singapore office offers UK law students summer holiday programmes and training contracts. We offer summer vacation programs for law students in the penultimate year and non-law students who are considering applying for an apprenticeship contract with the company.

A supervisory partner will be assigned to you who will give you work and will be responsible for training, monitoring your performance and feedback. You will also have a staff member as a buddy to accompany you in your work and overall learning experience with Withers KhattarWong. Towards the end of your training contract, you will receive an expert opinion in which the objectives are evaluated. At Withers KhattarWong, we are also committed to training you to become world-class lawyers. The program runs from July 12 to 29, 2022, so make sure you are available to participate if you are successful in securing a place in the program. Your training contract is based on six-month rotations (called “headquarters”) in a series of departments or practice areas where you sit with a partner or employee. It is expected that most, if not all, of our interns will be recruited from among the candidates participating in the summer holidays in Singapore. Our core competencies are the banking, corporate and international capital markets and, as an intern, you will spend at least twelve months of your training contract gaining experience in at least two of these areas. You may also spend six months in our London office during your second year of training. Our trainees must also acquire contentious experience during their training contract, which they carry out in our litigation department. We also offer our interns the opportunity to take a litigation course during their stay in London to gain their contentious experience when they are sure their interests lie elsewhere. Whenever possible and subject to the requirements of our different departments and practice groups, we encourage our trainees to train at Withers KhattarWong in different areas of practice in order to give our trainees a broader overview of the different practice areas during the training contract. Our CVC and training contracts each last 6 months, and you will join one of our practice groups such as wealth planning and taxation, corporate law, litigation and arbitration (general and criminal), intellectual property and technology, and banking finance and property. Many of our successful apprentices are offered the opportunity to stay in the company after completing their training contract, and a significant proportion of our partners have been trained at Withers KhattarWong. Latham`s summer program in Singapore is designed to give U.S. law students the opportunity to experience what it`s like to live and work in Singapore as a licensed attorney in the United States. Our summer staff in Singapore will work on a range of challenging and exciting corporate issues (including finance, mergers and acquisitions and capital markets) for clients in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the United States, with significant access to partners and clients and the opportunity to travel to international meetings with clients across Asia. Our summer employees also participate in our dedicated Singapore training program, designed to help young employees learn how to manage and execute business in a cross-border context. We accompany you through the Post Graduate Diploma in Law (PGDL) and / or the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) in London and your England & Wales training contract in Singapore. Your development does not stop at the conclusion of your practical training contract.
